We want to share our family cleaning secrets with you. We value our customer relationships here at American Window Products and we want our customers and neighbors in Jacksonville and beyond to benefit from our years in business.

Here are a few of our family cleaning secrets for you to apply to your cleaning routine:

Build a Cleaning Caddy

As business owners, we understand the importance of saving time in a busy schedule. One way to clean more efficiently is to build a cleaning caddy. This is a great tool to store all of your cleaning supplies in one convenient space.

As you clean and move from room to room, you can easily take all of your supplies with you. This will help you keep track of your supplies and help you to make fewer trips while you clean.

Use a Toothbrush

One of our favorite cleaning tools is a toothbrush. This is a great and inexpensive tool to clean tough to reach small cracks and narrow surfaces. This all-purpose cleaning tool can be used on everything from grout to window tracks for easy and efficient cleaning.

How to Clean Shower Doors

Shower doors are a pain to keep clean. Water stains, mold and mildew can build up. Start by cleaning your shower with a standard cleaning solution. Or, you can make your own glass cleaning mixture by combining white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

Then, use a magic eraser sponge to scrub off soap build up, dirt and grime. Once you have wiped the glass surface clean, dry with a cloth. To keep shower doors cleaner, use a squeegee after each shower to remove excess water.

How to Clean Marker Stains

We are a family, and that means our children and grandchildren are a part of our lives. As such, marker stains often end up on our walls, doors and floors. We have found that vegetable oil is a great tool to remove marker from surfaces.

Simply pour vegetable oil on a dry cloth and wipe off the maker covered surface. Once the stain is removed, be sure to clean off the vegetable oil with soap and water.

Use Newspaper to Clean Windows

As a window company, we understand how to clean windows. One quick and easy trick is to use balled up newspaper to wipe down windows. While deep cleaning your windows will take more effort, this is a great trick for easy cleaning.

Just ball up newspaper and wipe the window surface. This can be done both inside and outside. Newspaper is a great option because it is low-cost, gentle and won’t scratch your glass.

Easy Pet Odor Cleaning

Pets are a part of the family too. But, with pets comes pet odors. You do not need to use harsh chemicals to remove pet odors and make your home smell fresh.

Create a cleaning solution of half water and half white vinegar. Spray the mixture on the soiled surface and allow to sit for a few minutes. Cover the spot with baking soda and allow to dry. Once dry, vacuum up the excess baking soda.

Keep Your Refrigerator Smelling Fresh

Just like with pet odors, the refrigerator can easily hold in bad smells. One simple way to keep odors at bay is with coffee grounds.

You may use either new or used coffee grounds. Place the coffee grounds in a bowl or other container and put in your refrigerator. They will absorb the odors and leave your refrigerator smelling fresh. Replace the coffee grounds every two weeks for the best results.

How to Clean the Garbage Disposal

The garbage disposal can also develop bad odors from leftover food build up. Again, no chemical or expensive products are required. Our garbage disposal cleaning secret is foolproof.

Put ice cubes into the garbage disposal and turn it on. The hard surface of the ice will knock the built-up food and grime away from the inside of your drain. After the ice is gone, put citrus rinds into the drain and turn on the garbage disposal. The citrus oil will help clean, disinfect and leave your garbage disposal smelling clean.

Squeegee Windows for a Streak-Free Shine

Another of our window cleaning secrets is to always use a squeegee. When you clean your windows, you must dry them properly or you will have watermarks.

Once you have cleaned and dried your windows, use a squeegee to remove any excess water. This will leave your windows streak-free.

How to Clean Window Tracks

The inside tracks of your windows collect dirt and grime from the outside. We have developed a great method for cleaning these tough spots.

Sprinkle baking soda onto the window track. Cover the baking soda with a small amount of white vinegar and let sit for five minutes. This will soften the dirt and make it easier to remove. Use your toothbrush to clean the crevices and corners. Wipe all dirt away with a clean paper towel.

Develop a Cleaning Routine

The best secret for having a clean home is to develop a cleaning routine. Create a schedule. List your daily cleaning tasks like dishes, laundry and household pick up. Then create a weekly schedule of tasks like bathrooms and floors.

Also, breakdown quarterly and annual cleaning projects like window cleaning and scheduling carpet cleaning. Once you have the schedule in place, keeping your home clean will not feel as overwhelming.
